Crystal Loyd

In today's episode the topic is do it afraid.  Zip lining that's where my journey to conquering fear began, standing on a platform high above the ground, ready to zip-line. I, Crystal Loyd, am thrilled to recount my personal battle with fear and the victorious moment of conquering it. Get ready to walk down the memory lane as my husband, Kenny, and I share our experience - the hesitation, the tears, and the ultimate triumph.

But the story doesn't end there. Inspired by my personal journey, we go deeper into the concept of doing It afraid. I share my insights about pushing beyond comfort zones to achieve your dreams. Be it starting a podcast, preaching, teaching, or sharing your story, this episode is a nudge towards that leap of faith. Immerse yourself in this heartfelt conversation and discover the courage within yourself as well. So, let's embark on this journey of conquering fear together.

Was I still afraid? Heck Yes the whole time. But it doesn’t matter how you start, it’s how you finish. Sometimes God calls us to do some things in this life and you might have to do it afraid and with anxiety. God will be with us each step of the way and with God all things are possible. Speaker 2:

Have you ever found yourself running? Running mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially and even running physically from things in this life. This is no More Running. The podcast for women.

Speaker 2:

Hello, I'm your host, crystal Lloyd, and I've been known to run and still find myself running from the things in this life. Running from God, His calling, his purpose for my life. Running from change that's within my control, that needs to be made, or any type of change. Running from horror or even good or even just simple little things in this life. And God said to me Crystal, if you will stop running and surrender, there are things that we can accomplish together. Maybe you find yourself running as I have. I want you to know that you're not alone. Let's go from running to no More Running together. Let's get started with prayer.

Speaker 2:

Holy Spirit, we invite you to be a part of the podcast, the lessons, the life coaching and the sharing of our stories. Let it be known today that you are God. God, help us to go from running in this life, from whatever it may be that we're running from, from running to no More Running. In Jesus' name, I'm your host, crystal Lloyd. Today's topic is fear. Doing it afraid. We all experience fear at some point in our lives. Today, I'm going to share an experience I had with my husband while zip lining, overcoming that fear. Joining me today is the one and only Kenny Lloyd, my husband.

Speaker 1:

Thank you for the intro.

Speaker 2:

You're welcome. So our church that we attend pathways, yes was doing a summer series called Bucket List, no, what Ifs? And so we knew our vacation was coming up and we talked about maybe there's something that we can do that's affordable and mark something off of our bucket list. So we kind of talked about it a little bit and then we decided on zip lining.

Speaker 1:

It's something I've always wanted to do.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and me, I could. Really, I'm fine with it without it, whatever. So so, anyways, we decided yes. I decided, I said yes, okay, let's do this. It was an affordable thing. I thought this, this was going to be our last day on vacation that we were going to do this. So we went and we got our equipment, we, they did their lessons, we're all starting up the poll. And I decided, well, let's let everybody else go in front of us, because I was just too scared to go first. I didn't want to hold anybody up and so, okay, we're going to go last. And then, when I got up there and it was my turn, I just froze. I could not do it. I was. I just didn't know if I could go through with it. I started to cry, I mean big tears rolling down my face. For example, I mean Guy Kors was trying to help me he was very sweet and then Kenny trying to help me.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I just wanted to encourage you because I could tell that you had started to cry and I wanted to remind you that we don't have to do this. It's fine, we can go back down if you want to.

Speaker 2:

Well and being very supportive. But I had said I'm trying to do this, I really want to do this. I did not want my fear to hold me back, doing something you know off the bucket list, or just doing something new, something different in our life. And so I'm, you know, told him. No, you know, I'm trying, I'm trying to do this.

Speaker 2:

So I'm standing there, a ziplining guy, he's coaching me, he's telling me about the equipment and he's, of course, I had to ask if I was the only one that has ever cried on this and he said no. And I mean, keep in mind, this is just level one. But I had to go across and the heights, and I'm really, really scared of heights, and I was like I just don't know if I could do this. But he was so patient with me and then, but at some point, he said, crystal, you have to make a decision. What are you going to decide to do, because we can't hang out here all day long. You've got to make a decision. So I did it. I was afraid, but I did it. And I did it anyways, in spite of my fear and in spite of my anxiety, in spite of all my tears, I just did it.

Speaker 1:

And you did a good job too. Yeah, and I remember coming up to you afterwards. You were staring straight at this tree, but I wanted to tell you how proud of you I was, and I put my hand on your shoulder and you just didn't want to have anything to do with it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I felt like I was hugging that tree because I was like I didn't want to fall. I was scared, I was still crying and yeah, I don't know why, but I was a little mad at Kenny. I was like, don't touch me, don't touch me, but I continue, we continue to go through the zip lining. I mean, like I said, I just kept crying and then by the end of the zip lining I was having so much fun, we were having fun. I would hang in the air for a picture, which you could see on my Facebook. So you have to check it out, our pictures of zip lining. We have some pictures that you know, with me smiling and then a picture of me hanging in the air. And when I got done I was like, oh yeah, I could do this, I could do this again. And I was so glad that I did it, afraid, that I did not allow that fear to control me and to hold me back, and that was the most you know rewarding thing and that I did it and I did it afraid.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'm so glad that you did it. Going back to the tree, I remember, you know, looking at you and thinking here we are on vacation and we've got to drive back home. It's going to be a long drive back to Tennessee, but you did it, and the more you did it, the more you started enjoying it and having fun. By the end of the experience you could definitely see a change in you.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, the change in, just you know, from going from being froze, shaking, crying till and I'm doing this, I'm doing this, afraid I'm actually enjoying this.

Speaker 1:

So I thought are you ready for level two?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I was like, no, no, I I'll stop here. That's where I draw the line. But maybe, you know, someday we might go back and we might do level two. Maybe no promises, I was just happy that I did level one. I completed it. I faced my fear and my anxiety and I did it afraid, and I think it doesn't matter how you start, it's how you finish.

Speaker 1:

That's right. Someone has once said that courage is doing something even when you're afraid, and that's exactly what you did.

Speaker 2:

And I encourage others to. You know, if there's something in your life you want to do but you're afraid to do it, do it. Do it afraid. Maybe you know God is calling you out of your comfort zone to preach, teach, share your story, take the stage. You know, whatever God's calling you.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, do a podcast. Oh, my word, I am standing here and I am, I'm afraid I'm, and you know how many takes we've done. I mean, come on, it's hard, it's hard to face those fears in our life. And I do think about. You know, examples in the Bible and my favorite book in the Bible is Nehemiah, and I just love, I love the history behind Nehemiah and how here he is. He's in the chapter two, he's in the presence of the king and his face is downcast pretty much and he's sad in the presence of the king. So the king asked him why does your face look so sad when you're not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart. You know Nehemiah is saying I was very much afraid, but I said to the king may the king live forever. Why should my face not look sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins and its gates have been destroyed by fire?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so Nehemiah was in the presence of the king all the time and he had heard reports about the walls around Jerusalem had not been rebuilt yet and his people, the Jews, were being robbed and looted and this concerned him, so he prayed about it. He wanted to do something, but at the same time he was afraid to say anything to the king, which you've already said. So it took a lot for him to go before the king make his request, and he did it afraid.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and I mean the Bible says that Nehemiah was very much afraid. But then it says but I said to the king, so Nehemiah Was afraid to approach the king with his sadness, that was in his heart, what was going on with his people. But he did it, and he did it afraid and if you go on to read Nehemiah you see how God's favor was up on him and completing building those walls. Let's take a quick break. I love it and I wonder if God is calling you to Do something, to do it afraid. Maybe he's calling you to go back to school.

Speaker 2:

I know that I did that in my 30s when I had two small children. I didn't think I was smart enough to do that and I was very much afraid, but I did it, and I did it afraid. And then starting a new job. You know I have had the privilege of applying for different departments in within my company, that I've been with 11 plus years and Been able to be in those departments. But if I had to do it afraid, every single one of my I Don't know if you want to call them adventures or Callings or whatever I've had to do it afraid and I know that God is calling me to you know, speak and share my story. And I'm gonna have to do it afraid because I am. I'm very much afraid, but I know that God reminds me. In Joshua 1, 9 says have I not commanded you not to put my name in there too? Have I not commanded you, crystal, be strong and courageous, do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord, your God, will be with you wherever you go.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I think when you look at Joshua, you see this as a command God has given him. He's getting ready to leave God's people into the promised land and they're about to take over and do battle. So I'm sure he was nervous, he had some anxiety about this, maybe unsure of himself. And so God comes to him and is telling him be strong and courageous. I am with you, and so I. When you look at it in that sense, I don't think that it's just for Joshua. I think it's for us today as well, as command that God has given us. You know, no matter what you go through, no matter what you may face, remember, be strong and courageous. Why? Because I am with you.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I think so as well. Going back to Nehemiah, because you know I just love Nehemiah and I wanted to point me this out, and you know we was talking to the king and the king said to Nehemiah what are you requesting? And you know, here he is. He's afraid. One thing that I want to point out that Nehemiah did was so I prayed to the God of heaven. So he stopped right there in his fear and Before he spoke with and told the king, this is what I need, this is what's going on he stopped and he prayed and I remember being on that zip line and just up in the air and I was afraid and I was trying my best to do it, but I stopped in my mind I was praying Lord, help me, I want to do this, I'm trying to do this.

Speaker 2:

So I just encourage you to do it afraid, and and to pray, to pray as you go, because I know that. You know, when I was switching departments within the company, I remember Telling God, walking, you know my first day in a new department that I had no experience with, and I remember telling God okay, god, I'm doing this and I'm doing this afraid, but I'm doing it, lord, and so I just want to encourage you to pray about. You know, whatever that fear is, whether it's going back to school, whether it's homeschooling your children, whatever it may be, do it afraid.

Speaker 1:

That's right. You've got to do it afraid. The only real formula for courage is a simply move. That's all you have to do. That's all courage is. We can be afraid, we can be scared and not do anything, but courage takes action.

Speaker 2:

I've always been afraid, little girl, of just some things that I have went through in my life, some trauma, and I remember them saying Crystal, you're afraid of your own shadow. And I was. I was just afraid of everything. There's so much stuff that had happened in my life and it made me a scared little girl and I refuse to let fear control me and I refuse to let fear hold me back. And I encourage you to not let fear hold you back.

Speaker 2:

And I'm so excited about Joyce Meyer's new book Do it Afraid. I cannot wait. I am going to order that book, I'm going to read it and I'm going to continue to try my very best to do it afraid. I'm going to continue doing these podcasts as the Lord gives me and lays messages on my heart to share with you all and to encourage you all Just to get outside of your comfort zone. Do it afraid.
